On August 14, 2021, Haiti suffered a 7.2 earthquake that struck the Tiburon Peninsula in the Caribbean nation of Haiti.
At Least 2,250 people were confirmed killed as of September 7, 2021, and 12,000 injured. At least 136,800 buildings were damaged or destroyed. This was the deadliest earthquake and natural disaster of 2021. It was worse than the earthquake that took place in 2010.
We partnered up with many organizations and the Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
Mayor Sylvester Turner held a press conference announcing the plans we have to help Haiti.
NACC agreed to help by taking in donations such as non-perishable foods, baby food, baby formula, medical supplies, hygiene care, water, and canned food. NACC also allowed for the donation drive event to be held at their new warehouse.
Houston Haitians United were taking in Monetary Donations.
We called out all citizens of Houston Tx to take some time to donate during the day where NACC received all physical donations and even provided a dropbox for those who couldn’t donate during office hours.
We held a Donation Drive on August 28, 2021. We had Dj Bigreeks, a Food Truck that was selling food by donation to go towards Haiti. We invited volunteers all over Houston to help us organize our loads of Donations.
Special thanks to Islamic Civic who brought over 25+ volunteers to help us out.
We received many donations from the community, thank you so much Houston!
Our Donations lasted 2 whole weeks which led us to send 2 trailers of supplies to Haiti.
Thank you to the individuals and organizations who helped make this happen.
